Dear Mr Milburn
Thank you for your letter of 22 November 2002 via John Rutherford
You say that a hysterectomy should never be undertaken unnecessarily, no, it should not however they are. You say that the choice should be the woman’s via an informed decision. Why do I constantly hear women say that if they had known then, what they know now they would never had had the operation. They obviously have not made an informed decision.
What should be happening in hospitals and what is happening are two completely different things and you are putting your head I the sand about it.
I said no to a hysterectomy, if I had been told about the risk of a hysterectomy when I was coerced into a caesarean that I did not need I would never had had that either. Your complains procedure is a joke. I can not get answers out of the hospital I have tried via letter. I then asked to interview all those involved in my ‘care’ and that was refused. Everyone in my position that I have found, have also received the same results with your complaints procedures even with so called independent reviews.
Can you tell me what should happen when a patent refuses treatment (verbally), who’s responsibility is it to write that down?
You say that ‘the RCOG has already produced good quality guidelines on hysterectomy and consent’. Can you send me a copy. When my hospital quoted such things I asked for a copy, however that was refused, why?
I constantly asked for a copy of the procedure every cut and stitch this has also been refused why? This has been done to me. I have to endure each day of hell because of it.
Please send me a list of the individual statistics for hysterectomies in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland for the past 10 years. Is it possible that you can give this as a % of the available population to be hysterectomised?
Also if hysterectomies have not been done unnecessarily why have they been able to be reduced?
There was no clinical need for my caesarean says everyone BUT the hospital. Again your head is in the sand. I was lied to and not told the true risks. When I have asked for more information form the hospital at the time they refused it me. At this later date when I send them evidence that contradicts what they said they have ignored it, why? Again you head is in the sand I am now a barren eunuch because you will not stop barbaric procedures in hospitals.
You are writing a letter to an illegally created barren eunuch and you have the stupidity to tell me caesareans are safe!!!! I was a healthy fertile young woman going into a hospital there were no complications but I was made into a barren eunuch!!!

You are also misinformed when you say that there is no guarantee that post partum
haemorrhage can be stopped. Shall I tell the doctors that devised the procedure
over 10 years ago and the women that it was used on had further children that
they do not exist! Also in my case pph was used as the 5th excuse when they
had no medical evidence for all the other excuses used! When asked why they
did not use the 100% effective procedure they said they just did not use it.
So there you go, I could be an expectant mother today if they had chosen not
to break the law and let me keep my organs or used that procedure.
With regard to the uterus transplant, shall I also write to the doctors that undertake these procedures and tell them that they are lying they are not really doing this procedure according to the Department of Health in this country?
I understand that the hysterectomy figures related to pregnancy are for the public however hospitals are refusing to give me those figures, could you tell me why?
You have not commented on the following…
The fact that after a few hours I was left on a ward to fend for myself and a new-born baby!
How would you feel to wake up to find the top of your penis cut off and the length of it sliced in two and then stitched up tighter, amongst other mutative things?.
Also what are you going to do about the completion of my family? I understand it is a human right to have a family and a good sex life, why are you stopping this for me. As I said you give prostheses to amputees, I have had organs amputated why am I, (and others) discriminated against? Does your government only believe in the human rights of people in other countries?
You did/said nothing constructive to end our nightmare that is effectively your creation not ours. DO SOMETHING.
Yours sincerely
