I started suffering from pain in the abdoman and went to see my GP. He refered me to the hospital
I went to the hospital and was examined by a male consultant. I was told it was prolapse of the uterus. He said that you will have to have a hsyterectomy. I asked if I could have a repaire operation. I knew of the repair operation as it was what my mother had been given when she has prolapse of the uterus. (Mother born 1913 operation about 1942 therefore about 29 years old. She then went on to carry and give birth to another child. The prolapse then occured again and a rubber ring was used. It was in some pain and discomfort but would not have any further surgery)
The consultant said that as I was passed child bearing age it would be a waste of time doing a repair operation. I was reluctant to have it done however I did not feel I had any other choice. I asked how would I have this done, would it be though my tummy, he said no, the suction method (vagianlly) was the best way for me.
The only post operative information I was told was that I was not to lift an iron or kettle for six weeks. I was also told to only go up the stairs one at a time.
The consultation was about 20 minutes.
At the six week consultation I was examined and told that I would have to have another opertion. I asked why as I felt fine. I was told that too much scar tissue had formed and that it would cause me a lot of pain in later life. I was reluctant to have it done especially as I felt ok. Unfortuntly he was insistant.
I was booked in for a few months time.
I went into the hospital, and was given a general anethetic nd the oeperation was done. I wason recovery and then taken back to the day ward. I went home that evening and felt very uncomfortable. Ever since then I have not felt right at all.
I again had a check up after 6 weeks and waas told everything was alright. I said that I ddid not fel alright and I felt very uncomfortable. My comments were just brushed aside. He said that as time went on I would feel better.
I do not, TEN YEARS LATER!!!
