I came in to the hospital late in the evening. Everything looked normal and I was having contractions every 10 minutes. I had dilated 3 centimeters. The nurse told me to walk around for an hour to see whether the cervix would dilate further. After this walk I was open 5 centimeters. It was now past midnight and the nurse told me to try and get some sleep and to ring the bell if I was unable to sleep. I tried to sleep but the contractions were too painful so I rang the bell. The nurse then said that she would make the water break because this sometimes serves to intense the contractions. She said she didn´t see any point with me staying up all night. She said she was afraid I would not have the energy to go through labour the next day if I had not had any sleep. After she had made the water break the contractions were quite irregular. She then gave me a drip to stimulate contractions. Strangely enough the contractions more or less stopped after that. They kept increasing the dose of this drip. It was very painful but the cervix only dilated another centimeter. By 3 in the afternoon the next day when they had stimulated as much as they dared, to the point where I had not pause in between what felt like contractions, they decided to perform a ceasarian. After they had taken my baby out I could hear the doctor panicking. I could hear him saying my womb was not pulling itself together. I was bleeding heavily. Next thing I know he says that they may have to remove my uterus. All I could do was say No. I was horrified. They worked at trying to get my uterus to decrease back to it´s normal size for over two hours but unfortunately all attempts were unsuccessful. A hysterectomy was carried out.
