Why is this new to me?
“A truth’s initial commotion is directly proportional
to how deeply the lie was believed…When a well-packaged
web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth
will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker, a raving lunatic.” --Dresden
James
Unfortuntely it is new to most of us, usually when we wake from a general anethetic, as most were refused our legal right to make an informed decision.
In the UK the doctor is under obligation to give all the possibilities to allow us to make an informed decision no matter how remote the possibility. Doctors know if they are operating on your leg and there is a risk, no matter how small that you could loose the leg they have to tell you and they do tell you. It appears that far too many gynachologists are avoiding this part of their ethics. There is very little information about it, books do not mention it, the doctors do not mention it, very few midwives mention it and the media are refusing to cover it.
When many of us say to the doctors, midwives and so on that every expectant mother should be made aware of the possibility and allow her to think about it and fill in a relavant form ... we are told that that is scare mongering. So simply they will only allow you to make an informed decision when they choose. Usually they are stangers, who you may never have met before, and do not have any idea what is important to you or what you are able to deal with. They have to dealwith you for a few hours or days in hospital. This is a life sentence with no parole or time off for good behaviour. It should be the expectant mothers decision, and due to our divorce rate / split up rate, (usually the partner leaving saying 'I cant cope with this' or 'I want more children') only her decision. Far too many people contact us saying my husband/partner gave consent. That was illigal. Only the patient (over 18) can give consent, not a partner, not a parent, no one.
An article found ...
An article that says that 1 in 90 Caesareans end in a hysterectomy, http://www.observer.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,6903,366648,00.html
Our calculations for the risk of Post Pregnancy Hysterectomy
Several Daily Mail (UK) reporters have been contacted however
all but one have never replied, occassionally now and then they give it a sentence
when covering the increase in caesarians. The one that did reply just asked
if there was legal action and as there was not did not contact us further.
(futuer addition a list of all the reporters contacted and their response or
lack of)
BBC Watchdog Healthcheck (UK) refuse to cover
it, we understand their doctors put a stop on it. One of our group had had her
interview arranged and it was cancelled almost at the last minute. The excuse
given that it was SO rare that it did not need to be covered.
BBC Bodies (UK) (2004?)This is an interesting programme. In the first episode it covered post pregnancy hysterectomy. At the end of the programme they said 'if you have been affected by any of the issues in the programme ring ...' So I did, they had no information to give out on post pregnancy hysterectomy. I asked if they could give out this web site and other information. After details were passed around and speaking to a really helpful person, there was a final phone call that said 'no'. I asked why not and so was told that we are not a recognised group. I asked how we become a recognised group, she said she did not know. At one point she said that they did not know if the information on the site was accurate. I pointed out on their site it says 'The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites' so that should cover them, she said no.
ITV Tonight with Trevor MacDonald (UK) refuse to cover it. After
strongly insisting that it would be covered was pulled due to an editorial decision.
They now say that the subject is so important that 22 minutes is inadequate.
Surely 22 minutes is better than nothing. There are supposed to be some longer
prgrammes planned however their interviewee has yet to be informed. Link
to response
Channel 4 (UK) showed a programme on female circumcision in
African countries. They were contacted to ask if they were going to deal with
the form of female circumcision that is happening in this country. As Channel
4 tend to buy in programmes we understood that there may not be an actual response.
The programme was shown on July or August 2003. Link
to response
Channel 5 (UK) showed a programme and a debate about the MMR. They were contacted to see if they would take on this topic.
TV Quick (UK) In Eastenders (BBC UK) they are surposed to be covering the subject (June 2004). They are trying to compile an article to a company the storyline. They have said that they will pass on our details. To our knowledge they did not.

So that is why you may not know about this. A lot of people that this has happened to, do as they are often told, be thankful to be alive and not cause a fuss. One of our group that has asked questions that 'they' do not like has been threatened with sectioning and threaterned that their child would be taken from them.
A lot of people are accused of scare mongering if we do tell people. One lady was back outside where she had her anti-natal clases. She said to the midwife outside, 'I should go in and tell them what happened to me' her response 'OH NO YOU WONT!'.
It may be a logical progression that a problem with a uterus
remove it, however it is just something that most of us had never heard of or
considered. Many of us have heard of death due to childbirth and so make arrangements
accordingly. This is a secret that needs to be stopped! Please help us do that.
